At True Focus Eye Care, caring for patients has always meant more than just quick checkups and prescriptions. Since our beginnings in 1982, our practice has carried a legacy of quality over quantity—spending the time needed to truly listen, educate, and deliver personalized care.
That legacy continues today in our newest specialty: the Fresh Focus Dry Eye Center, dedicated to helping patients achieve long-term comfort and healthier eyes.
A legacy of quality care
Dr. Mark Matthews founded our practice with a vision of slowing down the pace of healthcare and giving patients time, attention, and innovative technology. When Dr. Vijay Shenai took leadership in 2015, that legacy was carried forward with expanded services like low vision care, infant eye exams, and now our dedicated Dry Eye Center.
Our name—True Focus Eye Care—reflects this philosophy: every patient deserves care rooted in knowledge, compassion, and innovation, no matter which doctor they see.
Why a Dry Eye Center?
Dry eye disease is one of the most common (and frustrating) conditions patients face.
● 49 million Americans suffer from dry eye disease.
●81% of patients say they feel frustrated by their condition. Yet, because routine eye exams often focus on cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and glasses prescriptions, dry eye symptoms are too often brushed aside with the advice to “just use artificial tears.”
At Fresh Focus, we go deeper. We dedicate 30 minutes or more per visit, giving you the time and education you deserve—because lasting relief comes from understanding the cause, not just covering up symptoms.
What dry eye really means
Dry eye is more than burning or grittiness.
● Your tears matter: 30–40% of your vision’s clarity depends on a healthy tear film. If your vision fluctuates during the day, your tears may be unstable.
● Your blink matters: Each blink should spread a healthy layer of oils across your eye. Weak or incomplete blinks leave dry spots.
● Your eyelids matter: 86% of dry eye cases involve meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)—blocked or weakened oil glands in the eyelids. Without those oils, tears evaporate too quickly.
● Your health matters: Conditions like glaucoma, diabetes, allergies, and long-term contact lens wear increase dry eye risk. Happy eyes are the ones you don’t notice at all—no irritation, no fluctuating vision, no constant awareness of discomfort.
Our comprehensive approach
Dry eye care is not “one size fits all.” We build a customized plan based on your eyes, your lifestyle, and your long-term comfort. Our tools range from simple daily habits to advanced in-office therapies:
Everyday habits & nutrition
● Warm compresses – our version of brushing your teeth, keeping oil glands healthy and open.
● Omega-3 supplements – nutrition that supports healthy tears, brain, and body.
● Artificial tears – helpful, but not the only answer.
Prescription relief
● Short-term steroid drops to calm inflammation.
● Prescription tear-stimulating drops when needed (e.g., Restasis, Xiidra, Tyrvaya).
Advanced therapies
● OptiLight intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy: reduces inflammation, treats MGD, and improves skin health around the eyes.
● OptiLift Radiofrequency & Muscle Stimulation: lifts and tightens eyelid tissue without surgery, improving blink function and comfort.
● Scleral lenses: specialized contact lenses that create a moisture chamber over the eye for all-day relief.
● Amniotic membrane therapy: regenerative healing for severe cases.
● Punctal plugs: blocking tear drainage to help keep tears on the eye (reserved for later stages, not first-line).
